Chennai Centre for China Studies (C3S) Paper No. 1195, Sep 12, 2013
Dr. LV Krishnan analyses a recent article in the Times of India Blog which alleged that China had conducted, about 3-4 nuclear explosions in 2005, for diversion of the Brahmaputra River on its side of the border. Further, the article delves into Chinese plans to use Brahmaputra’s waters to generate power. The article points to the CTBTO’s monitoring system and use of national technical means which make it unlikely that any nuclear explosions would go undetected.
