A three-member team from the International Strategic and Security Studies Programme (ISSSP), National Institute of Advanced Studies, (NIAS), Bangalore visited Sri Lanka on the invitation of Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS), Colombo from February 23-27, 2014. The members of delegation were Prof. Rajaram Nagappa, Prof. S Gopal and Dr. M. Mayilvaganan.
During the visit, the NIAS team and the Sri Lankan host, BCIS discussed about possible areas for collaboration between the two institutions. Such collaboration included joint research and exchange of scholars. The two teams also engaged in discussions on possible ways and means of strengthening India-Sri Lanka relations.
The NIAS team had a meeting with the Group of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) and the Chancellor of Sri Jayawardenapura University Ven. Dr. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thera. The NIAS team also visited Hambantota and Kataragama in the southern part of Sri Lanka. They visited the new Mattala Rajapasksa International Airport, the Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port (also known as the Port of Hambantota) and Kataragama temple.
